2 Things Mikel Arteta did wrong, that made Mancity win Arsenal 1-0

It was a disappointing night for Mikel Arteta, his players and the Arsenal faithfuls as Arsenal were defeated by 1-0 by EPL leaders Manchester City due to sloppy start from the gunners.

The gunners were hard done by Rhim Sterling’s goal in the 2nd minute after Leno, Bellerin and Holding lost concentration when a cross was played in from the right wing.

The gunners grew into the game except in ruthlessness and in desiring to score, and it could have been worse if not for some tenacious defending by Pablo Mari in the majority of the first and second half. This article is focused on discussing two key things that led to the painful loss.

Stubbornness with playing Bellerin as right back:
It is said that the best judges are those who can call a spade a spade, however, Mikel Arteta who is supposed to be the judge of who is good enough to play for Arsenal or not has not done his job right this season with over 30 games played in all competitions. It has been said over and again that a right wing combination of Bellerin and Nicolas Pepe does not work, but the Spaniard has been insistent and this stubbornness cost Arsenal precious points today, as Bellerin put in a shambolic performance in the red and white.

Delayed Substitutions:
Mikel Arteta is one of the premier league coaches who acts as if the substitution rule is a ghost whenever he manages the Arsenal. Arteta’s team can be trailing by goals in the first half and second half, and despite poor performances all round, he would prefer to make substitutions in the final 10 or 5 minutes. This rubbish behaviour cost Arsenal a chance to challenge Mancity today, as the manager who had seen that some of his players were not at their best and was expected to sub, yet he refused to do this and at the end of the day he brought in his substitutions a little bit too late.

The loss is painful for Arsenal fans not because they don’t deserve to lose to an in-form City, but because the manner with which they lost is embarrassing. Arsenal would have to give their all in the game against Benfica next Thursday if they hope to keep their chances of European football next season.
