No matter the hard balls life throws at you, do not give and always focus on the goal. Some footballers have been a victim of life threatening injuries which force the doctors to make the most devastating statement that they might not play football again.

At this point they had nothing left for them except their strong will to recover and at the end it worked for them.

Here are top five footballers who sustained career threatening injuries which almost ended their careers.


Chelsea winger Charly Mosunda Jr returned to Cobham after over a year rehabilitation following a career threatening knee injury. He undergone a surgery after years of reoccurring post cruciate ligament problems on his knees. According reports from popular Belgian paper, the doctors told him that he had only 20 percent chance of ever playing football professionally again. Mosunda kept believing and it worked for him, the 24 year old was included in Chelsea’s squad for the 2020/2021 season and he will possibly be send on loan next season.


Before he returned to action in 2019, the former Arsenal ace was told by medical professionals that just walking again with his son in the garden would be an achievement. Carzola sustained the injury on September 10, 2013 in Geneva when Spain Chile in a friendly match and Carzola withdrew injured. On December 5, 2015 he underwent surgery due to ruptured external ligament in his left knee, but the problems in the ankle persisted. He undergone eight surgeries in a year. The 38 year old made 70 appearance and scored 15 goals for Villarreal after his miraculous return before he secured a move to Saudi Arabian side.


Scuderi now 24 was reportedly on the brink of breaking into the Dortmund first team when he suffered a horrific left knee injury in a UEFA YOUTH LEAGUE against Legia Warsaw in 2016. The medical team feared the worst at the time his surgeon described the incident as the worst injury you could possibly imagine everything tore; the ligaments, all the muscle and tenders but Scuderi refused to give up. He spend 3 years on the sidelines and undergone nine surgeries. Borrusia Dortmund provided him with a safety net incase he couldn’t make it back. They funded his education in Sports management. But he recovered in 2018 and made his first appearance in a friendly against Luner SV for Dortmund reserve in August 2018. He decided to call it quit in 2020 to focus on his coaching career..


Cech suffered a head injury against Reading just 15 seconds – Readings midfielder Stephen Hunt collided with Petr Cech. The Chelsea Goalkeeper fell awkwardly. It looked like a normal Challenge but in reality death was very close for Petr Cech. A surgeon inserted metal plates in cech’s head. He suffered skull fracture and was served through an emergency surgery. Cech recovered fairly and quickly and was only out for four months but his career was never the same as he wear the protective headwear on the pitch and that became part of him. The fear that something like that would ever happened never left him.. He when on to become one of the best goalkeepers in football history.


During the 2016/2017 Europa League Campaign, Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered Meniscus and Cruciate Ligament damage. Everyone thought that was the end of his career considering his age and he was 36th then. ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC proved how special he is.
