Veteran Nollywood actress Madam Grace Owoola Oyin-Adejobi, widely known as ‘Iya Osogbo,’ is a well-known Nigerian actress, producer, and television personality. She was born in Osogbo, Osun State’s capital, on August 23, 1930, to a contractor father and a merchant mother.
Iya Osogbo was the wife of the late Chief Oyin Adejobi, a famous Yoruba actor whose nickname was derived from the title of a popular film in which she acted in 1999, “Eran Iya Oshogbo.”
She corrected the public’s view of her name by stating that she had already established herself before playing in the film “Eran Iya Osogbo,” and that she had collaborated with actors such as Orogun Adedigba, Kuye, Kootu Ashipa, and others. Her acting career began approximately 67 years ago. She has also gained acclaim both domestically and abroad, enhancing her standing as one of Nigeria’s leading Actresses.
Why I stopped acting – Iya Osogbo
As she approaches her 90th birthday on Sunday, August 23, and as the widow of the late Yoruba actor Oyin Adejobi, who passed away in 2000, she has also revealed why she gave up on making another appearance on screen.
During an appearance on a radio magazine program on Space 90.1FM, Parrot Xtra Hour on Radio, anchored by Olayinka Agboola in Ibadan, Oyo State, Iya Osogbo said she started her acting career some 67 years ago. She noted that she had already made her name before she acted in the movie Eran Iya Osogbo contrary to beliefs.
For the first time, the actress talked about the day in Ibadan when a fervent fan almost ran her over with her automobile.After a while, the fan emerged from her car to tell me that she just wanted to say hello. Later, she rushed me and wrapped ten thousand naira. Iya Osogbo remarked
The veteran actress expressed displeasure over the near-nudity in Nollywood today, advising actresses not to be deceived by the pleasures of the world but to believe they can succeed through hard work and the grace of God.
Iya Osogbo said she met her late husband Oyin Adejobi in her youthful days. They attended the same school and lived on the same street and said that apart from the death of her husband, the lowest point in her life was when her fourth child a female died.
I got to attain this age because of God’s mercy. In addition, the almighty also gave me the wisdom of preserving my body and being moderate in all I have been doing. Our youths should emulate this too. They should learn to be God-fearing too.
