As the on-going gubernatorial election in Edo state is getting to the crucial stages, former Senate president Abubakar Bukola Saraki has urged the people of Edo State not to get carried away but to protect their votes.
Saraki made this call in a series of Tweets on his verified Tweeter handle on Sunday afternoon, while reacting to the one hour break given by the Independent National Election commission (INEC).
He said the enthusiasm and patriotic conduct of the good people of Edo State must not be thwarted or subverted by any INEC official, either permanent or ad-hoc; or any security personnel, no matter the rank.
According to him, Nigeria’s glory is more important than the huge ego of politicians, saying that INEC and security officials must work to protect Nigeria’s image and not to satisfy the whims and caprices of some power hungry politicians.
He note futher that, It is a good development that the Orhiomwon LGA results which had created a little hiccup in the on-going collation and declaration of results of the Edo State Gubernatorial election has now been resolved peacefully.
Saraki explained that Before now, the situation would have led to the call of the fabled “inconclusive election”.
He, however, thanked INEC for it gesture and commended president Muhammadu Buhari for demonstrating leadership, saying he believed his statesmanship in instructing that there must be credible election.
