The Federal Government has ordered that all Federal Government owned Tertiary Institutions as well as Secondary schools, nationwide, should resume for continuation of academic activities, on Monday, October 12, Insidenaija reports.

Also, all state and private school owners are expected to work out techniques to reopen schools under their control.

Recall that the schools were shut nationwide, since March 23, in other to stop community transfer of the corona virus pandemic.

Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, who made the disclosure today at a press briefing in Abuja said, the decision to reopen schools was due to review of corona virus disease in Nigeria, saying that the virus daily infection has continued to decline.

According to him, “We have consulted widely with stakeholders in the sector including the Association of Private Schools (NAPPS), Provosts of Colleges of Education, Rectors of Polytechnics, Vice Chancellors of Universities, State Governors, Commissioners of Education and other development partners on the matter and secured their support and cooperation.”

He, however, tentatively warned school authorities to adhere strictly to corona virus disease safety protocols, threatening that any school owner who failed to comply with the safety protocols would be sanctioned, as it could result to the outbreak of the deadly virus in the school.

“Safe distancing procedures should be regularly practiced. Additionally, schools should develop and display simple context specific reference protocols on day to day actions to be operated in each school.

“Conduct risk assessment with a view to understanding the gaps in the system that could increase the risk of transmission, and make recommendations for addressing the gaps. There should be adequate sensitization and monitoring procedures,” Adamu said.

He urged school managements to provide water, sanitation facilities across the schools, and use of open spaces for gathering and promoting outdoor activities.

This is a good news, please share to students so they can prepare for school.
