Havertz shines as Chelsea dispatch Fulham to strengthen grip on top four

Kai Havertz scored twice as Chelsea put in a professional performance to beat Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. The win puts Thomas Tuchel’s men 6 points clear of 5th placed West Ham in the race for top 4.

Havertz opened the scoring ten minutes into the game, latching on to a brilliant Mason Mount pass to slot in. The move began with Mendy rolling the ball to Thiago Silva who released Mount with a through ball, which the midfielder controlled brilliantly before feed Havertz for the opener.

The Chelsea players celebrated that goal in style knowing how much it meant to the German. He doubled their lead few minutes into the second period with a neat finish after a one-two with Timo Werner.

The former Leverkusen man is coming to grips with English football after a slow start to life in West London.

Fulham edging close to relegation

Fulham who are in a strong relegation battle began the brighter side and had a few chances in the first half. Only some brilliant goalkeeping from Edouard Mendy prevented the visitors from scoring. This defeat leaves Fulham 18th on the table with just 27 points. They are now 9 points behind 17th placed Newcastle who have a game in hand.
