The player of the month award as the name implies is an honorary award given to the best performing player in the league for each month. It is determined by analysing all the matches played within each month, and checking out for the player with the most outstanding performance.
This award has long existed in the premier league, and has been won by so many players who actually deserved it. Players like Eden Hazard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Mohammed Salah, and so many others.
Prior to the middle of January this year, two players in the persons of Sergio Aguero and Mohammed Salah held the records revolving around the award. Aguero winning the award 7 times, being the highest in history while Mohammed Salah winning the award 3 times in a single year.
But a Portuguese in the person of Bruno Fernandes broke Salah’s record after he was named the “player of the month” for the month of December in the year 2020, making it his fourth time of coveting the award in that single year, having won it for the month of February, June and November.
Since his signing for Manchester United on the 29th of January, 2020, he has established himself as a main figure, not only in the club but also in the premier league at large. He has scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in the league this season, a very enviable stats I must say.
Manchester United are currently second on the EPL table, thanks to the heroics of Bruno Fernandes.
