The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has suspended a lecture Dr. Dr. Rowland Igwe, for allegedly impregnating a student of the institutions the PUNCH reports.
Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, made this known on his verified Tweeter handle on Friday, September 25, 2020.
According to him, the student suffered some health complications as a result of the pregnancy, noting that matter has been referred to the institution’s Senate Committee on Staff Disciplinary Matters for further investigation.
“The Management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has placed Dr. Rowland Uchechukwu Igwe of the Department of Sociology on an indefinite suspension on an allegation of serial intimidation, sexual harassment and undue canal knowledge of a female undergraduate which resulted in her impregnation and other complications.
“The matter has been referred to the Council-Senate Committee on staff disciplinary matters for further investigation,” the statement reads.
Sexual harassment has been a disturbing issue in many tertiary institutions across the country, with several stakeholders, including the National Assembly prescribing various punishments for culprits.
