Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes sounded confident after watching Manchester United put Newcastle away at the weekend. It was a confidence boosting performance by any means, but the club legend took t look at United’s fixture list and doesn’t think there will be any problems for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side when they travel to Stamford Bridge.

Scholes was critical of Thomas Tuchel’s style early in his tenure at Stamford Bridge, when asked about the league games coming up for the Red Devils.

Previewing United’s next league game against Chelsea, Scholes told BT Sport (quotes via MEN): “You’ve got to play these teams if you’re going to be successful – and you’ve got to beat them. They have really struggled in big games.

“Chelsea away, I watched Chelsea yesterday I thought they were okay but they were a little bit toothless in the final third. Look, I think United don’t have that much to worry about with Chelsea. I think they’ll be okay there, especially away from home their record is brilliant.

“The one game there obviously you worry about is Manchester City [on March 7]. They’re playing so well, 10 points clear at the top of the league, such a brilliant squad of players in fine form.

“That will be tricky, but they’re capable of doing it. I look at the other games I think they’re capable of winning all of them.”

This being the same United side that didn’t get the job done against Sheffield United or West Brom, I’m not sure how Scholes is sounding this confident. We’ve slipped up in recent weeks but a win over Chelsea would be the right statement.

Leicester are winning games and look set to put up a fight for second place.

And if United can push on and keep winning, who knows what could happen if City hit a run of bad results? We’ve got to be there for the rebound – even if there isn’t one.
